The NBA offseason has been interesting, to say the least, for the storied Los Angeles Lakers franchise, with the team making some bold and questionable moves to right the ship for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season.
As if bringing in Bronny James with the team’s second-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft wasn’t controversial enough, with many people labeling it nepotism and an indication of LeBron James’ power within the franchise, the team also hired the former podcast co-host of the four-time NBA champion, which hasn’t gone over well with the fans and the media.
Although the consensus seems to be that Redick is a great basketball mind and respected around the league, the former NBA player has zero experience coaching a team on any level, which makes him a questionable choice at best for this job to lead the 17-time NBA champions.
As usual, when it comes to the Lakers franchise, which he helped win three straight titles with over twenty years ago, Shaquille O’Neal chimed in about Redick getting hired by his former team and his concern about the decision to go with the 40-year-old via Legion Hoops.
“You have LeBron’s respect, what about the other guys? That’s going to be the test. I don’t think I could play for a guy who I just played against four or five years ago,” O’Neal said.

This move by the Lakers to bring in Redick might ultimately turn out to be brilliant as he could be a savant and precisely what is needed, but there’s a better chance it will be a disaster, as it seems like LeBron James’ choice, which might not sit well with his teammates.
Only time will tell how things pan out in Los Angeles, as the Lakers will be in the headlines daily, with Redick and the team under the microscope.
