The Houston Texans enter the 2024 NFL season as one of the most exciting young teams in the league after somehow making it to the 2024 NFL Playoffs.
Houston’s first-time head coach, DeMeco Ryans, and rookie quarterback, C.J. Stroud, proved to the league that the team would compete early and that they’ll be looking to take the leap this upcoming season.
The Texans struck gold when they had Stroud fall to their laps at No. 2 in the 2023 NFL Draft, but the team also had some extra draft capital to use in deals from their blockbuster trade that sent Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns.
Cleveland was desperate for a quarterback and they paid a hefty price for Watson, sending several draft picks including three first-round picks.
General manager Nick Caserio made good use of those picks, either selecting their own players or trading for established talent
Years later, Texans owner Hannah McNair took a jab at the Cleveland organization when she thanked them for the Watson deal.
““Thank a Brown. Have you thanked a Brown lately? … I THANK THEM FOR ALL OF OUR PLAYERS,” Houston received in historical haul,” McNair said.

McNair doesn’t pull any punches when she shades the Browns, going so far as to say that Texans fans should thank the Browns.
It does indeed look like a lopsided deal in favor of Houston at this point given the haul of players that ended up on their roster, though Watson still has time to prove them wrong.
Regardless, though, the Texans seem far more poised to compete than the Browns do.
