Brock Purdy was never supposed to start for the San Francisco 49ers.
As Mr. Irrevelant of the 2022 NFL Draft, the expectations for Purdy could not have been lower.
However, when Purdy was allowed to play after the two QBs above him on the depth chart got injured, he made sure to capitalize.
He has been their starter for the better part of the past two seasons and will look to be under center in the Bay Area for the foreseeable future.
Purdy might have the starting job, but now, he’s looking to get paid.
Because of his draft position, Purdy’s current contract is laughable considering the position he plays, and the 49ers will have to pay him a fair extension soon.
While there has been some speculation regarding his pay rate, Peter King weighed in with a no-nonsense approach to this situation.
As he said on 95.7, ‘The Game,’ “Brock Purdy deserves to make what the best quarterbacks make because he has played like the best quarterbacks.”

King recognizes that Purdy wasn’t taken in the first or second round, but draft capital doesn’t matter at this point.
Purdy has taken the 49ers to the NFC Championship for two straight years, and they are viewed as one of the top Super Bowl contenders again this season.
How much more does he have to prove to the general public to show that he’s worthy of a large extension?
