The Dallas Cowboys will be looking to stay competitive in an improved NFC during the 2024 NFL season after spending the offseason largely standing pat.
Dallas did manage to re-sign CeeDee Lamb to the lucrative extension most thought that they would, though now the question is what they do with Dak Prescott who is also extension-eligible.
While the offense has some uncertainty on it, the defense is in line to carry the team again and it starts with Micah Parsons.
Parsons is a perennial NFL Defensive Player of the Year candidate because of what he can do along the defensive line, though the secondary is also one of the defense’s draws.
Trevon Diggs is set to return from a knee injury, but the team also drafted some depth at the position when they took Caelen Carson in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Carson originally was slated to wear No. 41 for Dallas, but appears to be changing his number to an iconic one via his personal Instagram account.
No. 21 is largely associated with Deion Sanders who played for the franchise back in the 1990s, and it looks like Carson will be taking on the mantle as the next defensive back to wear the number.
Carson is a rangy cornerback who can make plays with his anticipation and short-area quickness, though he can get beat by speedier receivers downfield.
However, given that it’s his rookie year he likely will see limited snaps to start off before getting acclimated.
It’s bold to wear Sanders’ former number, though it speaks to his confidence.
