Gregg Williams had the chance to be a defensive coordinator in the NFL for the better part of three decades and is currently the defensive coordinator with the DC Defenders of the UFL.

Over that time frame, he has had the pleasure of coaching dozens of Hall of Famers, but he recently revealed who his favorite player he ever coached was.

Williams recently appeared on the ‘Come Get Some’ show and he said that former Washington Commanders safety Sean Taylor was his favorite player he ever coached in the NFL, saying “I’ve got 20-25 players now in the Hall of Fame that I’ve had a chance to coach. But Sean Taylor was by far the best player I’ve ever had the chance to coach.”

That’s high praise coming from a man who coached Aaron Donald for three years, but Taylor was on a Hall-of-Fame trajectory early in his career before it was tragically cut short due to his untimely passing.

Taylor had 12 interceptions and eight forced fumbles in the 55 games he played in and made the Pro Bowl in two of his four seasons in the NFL.

Williams has been a defensive coordinator for seven different NFL teams and helped take the Tennessee Titans to the Super Bowl in the 1999 season, and the list of great defenders he has coached is extensive and includes multiple Defensive Players of the Year.

Bountygate will always cast a shadow over what Williams has accomplished, but he had the luxury of being front and center for the beginning of some incredible careers, and it will always be a shame how tragically Taylor’s was cut short.
