Shannon Sharpe’s episodes of Nightcap alongside Chad Ochocinco are always good for a mixture of deep laughs juxtaposed with life advice and personal anecdotes that keep listeners tuning in day after day.
When speaking about the first week of college football, Sharpe directed his ire at one college coach who he thinks is doing things incorrectly.
Sharpe ripped into Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney after his team’s season-opening 34-3 walloping at the hands of Georgia and said, “You’re not that good” while adding, “He’s going to have to come to the conclusion…that if you don’t get the transfer portal…you ain’t gonna win.”

Ochocinco said this is the only way Clemson is going to compete with the other big programs before Sharpe twisted the knife by pointing out how Clemson is one of only four teams alongside Army, Navy, and Air Force that didn’t land a transfer this offseason, while the other three schools are in the service academy so they don’t accept transfers.
Sharpe also criticized Swinney for saying he would leave the sport once players started getting paid, which he has obviously not done.
It was a brutal and organized takedown of Swinney, whose program has been trending downward and has lost three games in each of the last three seasons and taken a step down from the National Championship level it was at five years ago.
Sharpe and Ocho are right in the sense that any path to competing for championships now has to involve the transfer portal, so it will be interesting to see if Swinney ever changes his stance.
