The New York Knicks were one of the biggest winners of the NBA offseason.
Not only did they manage to trade for Mikal Bridges to complete their Villanova superteam, but they also got Jalen Brunson to take a massive pay cut to get more flexibility for the future.
The Knicks have a deep and very talented roster, and Tom Thibodeau actually turned to his bench in the playoffs.
Even if that was mostly due to injuries, several players stepped up and proved that they could contribute at a high level when it mattered.
That prompted a debate.
Some believe the Knicks don’t need Julius Randle and would be better off moving him for depth.
Others believe Randle was the secondary 20+ points-per-game scorer they needed in the playoffs.
Notably, that debate isn’t likely to go away any time soon, now that they’ll have Mikal Bridges and OG Anunoby there.
With that in mind, ESPN insider Brian Windhorst claims that Randle’s salary makes him ‘extraordinarily tradeable.’
This is a situation they need to look at thoroughly.
If Randle doesn’t mesh well or doesn’t want to take a backseat to Jalen Brunson, he must go.
The Knicks did need another 20+ points-per-game scorer in the playoffs, but Randle, as good as he is, has struggled mightily in the postseason when other teams make defensive adjustments.
Whatever the case, the Knicks are in a privileged position right now, and that’s a very good problem to have, as they should have several suitors lining up to get him.
