Insider Says Patriots Are Eyeing Top WR Prospect

The New England Patriots are in a big need of talent.

They don’t have any clear-cut stars on either side of the ball.

However, they’re still a defensively disciplined team that could be somewhat efficient there.

When it comes to the passing game, however, their lack of a clear-cut WR1 is more than evident.

That’s why they might have set their sights on a guy who’s not even in the pros yet.

According to a report by Mike Reiss of ESPN, the Patriots had several scouts in attendance to watch Colorado’s season opener vs. North Dakota State.

Per Reiss, that speaks volumes about how the Patriots intend to deal with their pursuit of a star wide receiver:

“Given the team’s ongoing quest for a No. 1 receiver, it might be a preview of how thorough the Patriots will be in their evaluation of Colorado’s dynamic pass catcher Travis Hunter,” Reiss said.

If that’s the case, then their scouts may not need to see more.

Hunter put on an absolute show, logging all but two snaps on defense and being an absolute shut-down defensive back, and then hauling in seven receptions for 132 yards and three touchdowns.

Some scouts believe Hunter could be a first-round pick as a defensive back as well.

However, his ball skills are too evident to look the other way, which is why he’s most likely going to be touted as a wide receiver at the next level.

As things stand now, the Patriots are almost a lock to be picking near the top of the first round in the 2025 NFL Draft, so they will have more than enough chances to make a run at and get their hands on the talented dual player.
