The Kansas City Chiefs will be without one of their top running backs to start the season.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire continues to battle an illness, forcing Andy Reid’s hand to make a tough decision.
According to a report by Field Yates of ESPN, the team has decided to place him on the reserve/non-football illness list.
The Chiefs have placed RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire on the reserve/non-football illness list.
As a result, CEH is now out for at least four games. Makes the addition of Samaje Perine that much more important for the champs.

That means he’s going to be on the shelf for at least the first four games of the season.
The LSU product missed multiple practices during training camp with what seems to be a recurring illness.
He also admitted to dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder, so that might be related to his absences.
The team has yet to disclose the specific nature of Edwards-Helaire’s illness, but it seems like he’s not going to be on the field for at least one month.
Needless to say, that means that Samaje Perine’s addition is going to be even more important to the reigning Super Bowl champions.
Of course, Isiah Pacheco is still expected to handle the bulk of touches and reports state that he’s made great strides as a pass-catcher in the offseason, so he could be there in those situations as well.
The veteran Perine will now be his backup, with undrafted free agent Carson Steele bumping into the No. 3 spot in Edwards-Helaire’s absence.
Edwards-Helaire entered the season with high expectations but has been mostly underwhelming, and this is yet another speed bump in a once-promising career.
Hopefully, he’ll make a full recovery from whatever he’s dealing with.
