Some New England Patriots fans are disappointed to know that Drake Maye won’t be their starting quarterback, at least to start the season.
That wasn’t a big surprise, though, as Maye always looked like a work in progress.
Even so, some believe the Patriots are making a mistake by not having their rookie quarterback out there, as he could benefit from the real-game reps and situations.
Notably, that’s not how Tom Brady feels.
Talking on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, the seven-time Super Bowl champion claimed that he believes it’s important for young quarterbacks to sit for a while and learn from veterans.

He knows that organizations will ultimately need them, and while not all of them lose confidence in their skills when they struggle out of the gate, it’s better for them to soak in as much information as possible to get acclimated with the offense and the perks and demands of the NFL life.
On top of that, the Patriots might have been setting him up to fail if they started him.
They don’t have much talent at wide receiver and boast a subpar offensive line, and Maye — like any other rookie in his position — would have likely struggled mightily in those circumstances.
They’ve already made that mistake with Mac Jones, and they don’t want to go through the same thing all over again.
Every time Tom Brady talks, someone should be listening, and if he thinks his beloved Patriots are doing the right thing, then it might be the right thing.
