The San Francisco 49ers and their fans were rocked by the news that rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall had been shot during an armed robbery attempt.
Despite suffering a gunshot wound to his chest, he spent just one day in the hospital and is already back at the team facility.
In addition, the 49ers were dealing with Trent Williams’ contract-related holdout, which ended when the star left tackle agreed to a reworked deal.
Williams admitted to the media that the Pearsall situation motivated him to return to the team as soon as possible.
“To be real, I felt more compelled to come back after that than anything,” Williams said, via NBC Sports Bay Area.

The All-Pro admitted that Pearsall went out of his way to meet him during the offseason and that made an impression on him.
The University of Florida product was the No. 31 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and is thought to have the potential to eventually become a star.
However, due to the injury suffered in the shooting, he will miss at least the first four games of the season after being placed on the non-football injury (NFI) list. But it is a very good sign that he avoided severe complications.
While the 49ers reportedly have created a good amount of salary cap space over the past several days, they still need young players on rookie contracts to emerge as serious contributors to extend their championship window.
They have had arguably the best roster in the NFL over the past few years but haven’t won the Super Bowl since the 1994 season, and their fans are restless for another championship.
