The Washington Commanders have officially locked up one of their starting offensive linemen.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Washington has signed guard Sam Cosmi to a four-year extension worth $74 million ($45 million is guaranteed).
The team is making the protection up front a priority as they enter a season with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels taking over as the starter.

A former second-round pick of the team, Cosmi has proven himself to be a strong contributor for the team along the trenches.
As a rookie in 2021, he started and played in a total of nine games.
In 2022, he played in a total of 14 games and started in six of them.
Last season, his career finally took off as he played in and started all 17 regular season games.
According to StatMuse, Washington gave up 65 sacks last season, which was tied for the second-most in the league.
It will be up to Cosmi to help bring down that number.
The former Texas Longhorn is still just 25 years of age and is a clear franchise cornerstone now with the Commanders forking over a ton of money to big No. 76.
Heading into the 2024 season, the jury is still out on head coach Dan Quinn and Co.
On the surface, they could be a rebuilding team with a ton of bumps ahead.
But if you look deeper, they have a new front office and coaching staff in place with a lot of new players in town.
A lot of times, that freshness can reap good rewards for teams.
