After another disappointing NFL season last year, the Washington Commanders hoped to start to turn their storied franchise around before the 2024 campaign in an effort to change the culture in the nation’s capital, with Josh Harris and his ownership group getting some time to try to right the ship.
Fortunately for Washington, the team has made many solid moves during the NFL offseason, including hiring Dan Quinn to replace longtime head coach Ron Rivera and drafting reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels to be the franchise quarterback moving forward.
Even though the Commanders did a great job of upgrading the team during the offseason, the new-look squad has a lot to prove heading into the 2024 campaign, as they’ll need to get some wins to make steps in the right direction.
Although there’s a lot of optimism in Washington right now, the team is already a bit banged up heading into their season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road on Sunday, with seven players on the injury report via the team’s X account.
Marcus Mariota (chest), Jer’Zhan Newton (foot), Daron Payne (back), Trent Scott (knee), Brandon Coleman (shoulder), Clelin Ferrell (knee), and Dante Fowler Jr (knee). were listed on the report.

With the Commanders going through training camp and the NFL preseason, like every other team in the league, some players were bound to end up on the injury report ahead of Week 1.
Fortunately, the Commanders will have Daniels healthy heading into his first season in the NFL with the franchise, which is the player everyone wants to see, as Washington has high expectations for the future of the No. 2 overall pick.
