After the lost season that was their 2023 campaign, the Cincinnati Bengals still have some sticky business to resolve before they can truly contend for the Super Bowl championship.
Star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has been looking for a lucrative contract extension, and at times, he hasn’t been present at practice as a result.
But he returned to the field on Wednesday for the Bengals’ first official practice of the 2024 season, and quarterback Joe Burrow says Chase looks like he’s ready for Week 1, per Paul Dehner Jr.
Joe Burrow on Chase being potentially able to play Sunday physically: “He’s ready to go. Saw him out there today, he looks fast, strong like he always does. Confident if he does go out there Sunday he will be the Ja’Marr we all know.”

The Bengals will face the rebuilding New England Patriots on Sunday to kick off their season, and while one may assume it will be an automatic win for them, they will need Chase out on the field in order to ensure victory.
More importantly, they need to be out on the field together as one unit in order to build the type of habits that could result in winning it all.
Over the last few years, the Bengals have been perennial contenders when healthy, but they haven’t gone all the way — they lost in the Super Bowl during the 2021 season and fell in the AFC Championship Game the following year.
As a franchise, they have never won the Vince Lombardi Trophy, as they have fallen short in all three of their trips to the big game.
But for this season, they should have at least a puncher’s chance at getting there, as Burrow remains an elite quarterback and Chase is one of the game’s better wideouts.
Overall, they have a young team, and if they keep together their core, they could have plenty more chances to win it all in the years to come.
