The 2024 NFL season has officially started.

The Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens faced off in a back-and-forth battle last night, with the Chiefs prevailing, 27-20.

Baltimore nearly tied it up at the end of the game but Isaiah Likely’s toe was out of bounds in a catch that would have made the game more interesting.

Before the game began, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett discussed the upcoming NFL season, and what they thought of some of the top players in the league.

As he mentioned in the All the Smoke podcast, Pierce said. “Lamar Jackson is arguably the best player in the NFL.”

Paul Pierce: “Lamar Jackson is arguably the best player in the NFL.”

Kevin Garnett: You think he’s better than Patrick Mahomes? Man, Get the f*ck out of here!… He just won the god damn Super Bowl.”

Garnett was quick to stop him in his tracks, arguing that Mahomes was the better player considering his recent success in the Super Bowl.

Jackson is coming off another MVP season, the second of his career.

He played exceptionally well in 2024, helping bring the Ravens to the AFC Championship, where they narrowly lost to the Chiefs.

Pierce believes that Jackson could be the better player, even if the Chiefs have their number in games moving forward.

It will be interesting to see how both players fare in 2024, and who will have a better statistical season.

Mahomes has the edge when it comes to passing, and Jackson’s floor as a rushing QB cannot be understated.

Wins typically do a lot to help a quarterback’s case as it relates to how good they are, however, and at this time, Mahomes has done a lot more winning than Jackson.
