A Clayton Kershaw Joke Came Back To Haunt The Padres

This past Friday represented the start of a really exciting weekend series between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers in Petco Park.

The Padres took that game 5-2, thanks to two home runs by Fernando Tatis Jr.

That day, Clayton Kershaw had his worst start of the season, with four earned runs in 4.2 innings.

He also walked five, an uncharacteristic control blip for the future Hall of Famer.

The Padres showed an image of Kershaw with a sad gesture and “added” some tears dropping down from his eyes.

Of course, it was Petco Park and everybody loved it.

Even the pitcher didn’t take issue with it, and said “if you don’t like it, pitch better” in one of the most mature responses you will see this year.

However, that trolling job seemed to have ignited the Dodgers’ weekend comeback.

They spoke on the field, though.

With victories on Saturday and Sunday, LA took the series and extended their division lead to 1.5 games with the Arizona Diamondbacks and three games with the Padres.

There is nothing wrong with adding some spice to baseball every once in a while, but as a team, you have to live with the consequences of your acts.

Again, the Padres probably didn’t do anything terribly wrong, but they did wake up the beast.

Dustin May pitched six scoreless innings on Saturday to lead the way, and Mookie Betts and James Outman both homered on Sunday in the extra-innings win.

If anything, as fans we are thankful that this rivalry is reaching previously unseen levels of excitement.
