The Dallas Cowboys have been lucky to possess a slew of great players over the years, and several of them have been quarterbacks.

From Roger Staubach to Dak Prescott, they have been able to find some good and great signal-callers through the decades with very little lag time between each one.

Today, one of those standouts, Tony Romo, is celebrating his 43rd birthday.

How did @tonyromo pull off these plays? I don’t know, Jim.

Romo, a native of San Diego, played three strong years of college ball at Eastern Illinois University, yet he went undrafted and ended up signing with Dallas.

He got almost no playing time in his first two seasons, but in 2006 he burst onto the scene when he became their starter, replacing Drew Bledsoe.

He made the Pro Bowl that year, and with Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens by his side, he led the Cowboys to the playoffs in 2006 and 2007, where they lost both times in their initial game.

In all, Romo made four Pro Bowls and took the Cowboys to the postseason four times, and he retired as the franchise’s all-time leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, and most fourth-quarter comebacks or game-winning drives.

However, Romo was often knocked for his lack of postseason success, as he only won two playoff games in his 13-year career.

2016, which was his last season in the NFL, also happened to be Prescott’s rookie season.

Right after Romo retired, he became a commentator for the NFL on CBS, and while he was praised during his first few years for his analysis, many feel it has regressed over the last couple of seasons.

But there is no doubt Romo is one of the Cowboys’ all-time greats, even if he doesn’t have a Super Bowl ring to show for it.
