A Former Rockets Coach Is Joining The Pistons

The Houston Rockets fired head coach Stephen Silas right as their disappointing season came to an end.

It wasn’t a huge surprise to see Silas go and most people expected he’d find another job in the NBA.

That new job has been found for Silas.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Silas has agreed to join the Detroit Pistons and their new head coach Monty Williams as the top assistant coach.

Before his stint as the HC of the Rockets, Silas was an assistant coach for years with the Golden State Warriors, Charlotte Hornets, and Dallas Mavericks.

He took on the top job in Houston but it didn’t go very well.

He had a painful 59-177 record during his time with the Rockets and his firing in April was seen coming months before it happened.

His new job with the Pistons will allow him to work directly under one of the most well-respected coaches in the league.

Williams was brought to Detroit last week with a monster six-year, $78.5 million contract, which is the most expensive in the league.

When the Pistons paid him so much, it was clear they were handing him the keys to the team and would allow him to make any coaching choices he wanted.

Silas will be just one of many people working alongside Williams to turn the very troubled team around.

Silas has shown his fair share of talent but he was stuck with a very young and inexperienced roster.

His own inexperience showed often too and it ultimately wasn’t a good fit.

But now he could find much more success in Detroit even though he has given up the head coach title.
