With all the big-name players having inked their new deals either with the team they were already on or a new team like Donovan Mitchell and Paul George, NBA free agency has come down to the role players left in the bargain bin, with some notable names still available.
One of those notable names is free agent Gary Trent Jr., formerly of the Toronto Raptors, who is looking for a new team on the open market and hopes to find a role on a team headed in the right direction.
Although Trent was linked to the Los Angeles Lakers over the past couple of weeks, it seems playing alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis in the City of Angels isn’t going to happen, with some more intriguing opportunities coming to light.
According to Derrick Perkins, the Philadelphia 76ers have emerged as the favorite to sign Trent, even though the New York Knicks and Denver Nuggets have shown considerable interest.

Trent’s numbers with the Raptors have been in decline for the past two seasons, but he’s still considered to be an asset if he can find the proper role and the right team, which may end up being the 76ers, who seem to be going all in during this NBA offseason.
The addition of Trent to the 76ers, or the Nuggets or Knicks, for that matter, will help stretch the floor and provide the shooting needed to make one of these teams that much better during the 2024-25 campaign.
Last season, Trent averaged 13.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists, shooting 42.6% from the floor and 39.3% from distance in the 71 games he appeared in with Toronto.
