Klay Thompson has likely played his last game for the Golden State Warriors.
Just a few seasons ago, he was one of the team’s most important players but things have changed and Thompson is probably moving to another team, but which one?
According to a new report from Marc Stein, there is a “strong mutual interest” between Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks.
Free agency opens on Sunday and there is a very good chance that Thompson’s representatives and the Mavericks will communicate to hash out a deal.

Thompson is coming off his worst season ever, averaging 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game, shooting 43.2% from the field and 38.7% from the three-point line.
Despite having a very rough year, Thompson could still be a helpful part of any team, especially if he gains his shot back and looks more like his former self.
The Mavericks are looking for a few more tweaks to help them return to the Finals.
After their disappointing series against the Boston Celtics, they want to come back stronger than ever and Thompson could make that happen.
But they would have to work out a deal that is appropriate for both sides, giving Thompson the salary he wants while still allowing the Mavericks the ability to sign other stars.
There is much to be done to secure Thompson but the fact that both sides have interest is a good sign and indicates that things could be moving forward quickly once free agency begins.
Even if a deal with the Mavericks doesn’t happen, it now seems incredibly likely that Thompson is leaving the only team he’s ever played for.
