Aaron Boone Offers An Honest Take On The Struggling Yankees

The New York Yankees are going through their ugliest struggle in years.

They are 50-47, last in the AL East, and in the midst of a four-game losing streak.

They have dropped eight of their last 10 games, they are currently without their best player (Aaron Judge), and most of their lineup is mired in a deep slump.

Things couldn’t be worse: Tommy Kahnle took his frustrations out on a fan (a device, not a person) and Carlos Rodon was blowing sarcastic kisses to the crowd.

Manager Aaron Boone is usually calm under the storm and careful with what he says to the press, but he was candid after Wednesday’s loss.

Aaron Boone: “We stink right now. We acknowledge that.”

Per Yankees insider Bryan Hoch, Boone said the Yankees “stink” at the moment.

Well, that’s one way to put it, and it’s actually not far from reality.

In life, the first step towards solving a problem is acknowledging that there is a problem.

The Yankees are not among the worst teams in baseball.

However, they also aren’t playing like a playoff-caliber team.

Without Judge in the lineup and with aging players all over the field, they are stuck in a sea of mediocrity.

They need more talent, especially in the position player department.

The prospects still haven’t fully developed, and the rest of the core is old.

Only Gleyber Torres falls somewhere in between among position players.

The Yanks need outfield help, a reliever or two, and maybe even a starter at the deadline.

Will they get all those players without sacrificing their most prized prospects?

It looks like a tough task.
