Sometimes, in the NBA, all a player needs to thrive and flourish is a change of environment.
That was the case with Aaron Gordon.
After dominating at youth levels, Gordon was expected to be a superstar, and the Orlando Magic didn’t hesitate to get him with the No. 4 pick out of the University of Arizona.
Gordon entered the league as an impressive athlete with unmatched hops and way stronger than the average 19-year-old.
He tried to modify his game, adding a three-point shot to his repertoire, but he didn’t actually do much until he was finally traded to the Denver Nuggets, where he became a major contributor to an NBA championship team.
When asked about the transition he has to make and how he went from being a potential franchise player to this selfless guy in Mile High, he had a blunt response.
He credited Nikola Jokic for that, stating that if the best basketball player on Earth and a three-time MVP can be selfless, so can he (via NBA).
“If a 3-time MVP can do it, I can do it to.”

Gordon claimed that Jokic was the most humble and down-to-earth guy you would ever meet, and that kind of selflessness is contagious.
Notably, that’s one of the things that has made this Nuggets team so good.
There’s no ego; there’s no desire to be the best player on the team or take the biggest shot.
Everybody does their job and feeds off one another, and that’s not an easy thing to accomplish in a league that has often been driven by ego and player’s agendas.
