Aaron Rodgers Announces Decision About His NFL Future

The New York Jets quarterback situation has been awful this year after Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in Week 1.

After the Jets were mathematically eliminated from the playoffs after a 30-0 loss to the Miami Dolphins this past week, the door to a potential Rodgers return before the end of the year seemed to be closed.

And with Rodgers heading toward the end of his career, many wondered how long he would play for the Jets after effectively wasting a year because of the injury.

Rodgers somewhat answered that question Tuesday when he said he doesn’t think 2024 will be his final NFL season (via The Athletic’s Zach Rosenblatt).

Aaron Rodgers said he doesn’t think 2024 is his last season. He wants to play more than one year.

Said he believes in the #Jets leadership.

This is big news for the Jets considering how poorly Zach Wilson played in Rodgers’ absence this season.

Rodgers still has two years left on his contract after he agreed to a restructured deal following his trade from the Green Bay Packers, but no one was sure if he’d play through the end of it given his age and previous comments about retirement.

The 40-year-old quarterback said during the offseason he was close to retiring ahead of the 2023 season, but decided against it after he heard the Packers wanted to trade him away.

And after he lost the 2023 season to his injury, Rodgers appears ready to play two more seasons and finish his career with the Jets.

New York needs him – badly – after what many expected to be a good season ended with another playoff-less year.

The good news, though, is the Jets should also get a top-10 draft pick for their poor season – one they can use to upgrade the offense this offseason.
