The New York Jets didn’t expect to be in this position at this point in the season.
They were supposed to be Super Bowl contenders, with Aaron Rodgers leading the way, but that injury changed the plans right away.
That’s why, now that Zach Wilson failed to lead the team in his absence and was demoted to the bench — again, Rodgers claims to feel guilty for that situation.
In his latest appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers stated that it was supposed to be different, with Wilson getting to learn behind him for a couple of years and not having all that pressure to deliver right away.
“I love Zach Wilson and he’s a great kid..
I have some personal guilt around the whole thing and I’m frustrated that I haven’t been able to play..
Zach would’ve had the opportunity to learn and grow without the pressure on him this season” ~ @AaronRodgers12 #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/GxRQtIDwfp

The legendary quarterback showed his love and appreciation for Wilson, and he’s repeatedly stated that he believes in him as a potential star in this league.
Wilson grew up looking up to Rodgers, and getting to learn behind his idol could’ve done wonders for his development.
Some believe that, under the right development and guidance, Wilson could still turn out to be as good as the Jets thought he’d be when they took him with the No. 2 pick just a couple of years ago.
Now, we might never know, as he’s most definitely not going to be a part of the team going forward, and he might not even get another opportunity to prove his worth in the league.
Still, it’s not like Rodgers decided to get hurt, so he shouldn’t feel guilty about the way things turned out for the BYU product.
