The NBA has already introduced some new ideas over the last few years, but commissioner Adam Silver isn’t done expanding the league.

According to Tim Reynolds, per Legion Hoops, Silver “has discussed a potential annual tournament or an NBA operated league with FIBA in order to increase their ‘competitive footprint in Europe.’”

This is just the latest proof that Silver and the league recognize that basketball is an international game and they want to be in every part of the globe.

It’s no surprise that Silver is so intent on spreading awareness and popularity in other countries, especially Europe.

Several of the biggest names in the league are from Europe, including Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo and more.

As time goes on, even more young players hailing from that part of the world will come to the NBA and have an impact.

A European tournament or league would be massive for the NBA and would be a big undertaking.

Does Silver have the energy and the resources to make that happen with all the other changes he’s made recently?

He has introduced both the In-Season Tournament and the Play-In Tournament, too.

Additionally, Silver and his team have just negotiated a new media rights deal and are conversing about adding new teams to the league.

He’s a busy man with a lot of irons in the fire but he has always had his eyes set on broadening the league and bringing it to new fans and players around the world.
