NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has to be beyond pleased with how well fans and media have received the NBA In-Season Tournament.

Silver introduced the tournament idea earlier this year and it was met with skepticism as it was hard to imagine that the games would motivate the players to try harder than usual for a regular season contest.

However, the teams treated the games as if they were playoff games and that led to some exciting and dramatic finishes during both group play and the knockout rounds.

The Championship game is set between the Los Angeles Lakers and Indiana Pacers and it’s genuinely a toss-up as both squads went undefeated during their respective tournament runs.

Silver has been a proponent of implementing ways to get fans more engaged during the regular season and it looks like the In-Season Tournament will be here to stay.

Although the tournament should be considered successful, Silver acknowledged there are things that can be done to improve the format via ESPN.

Silver notes the first thing he might look to change for next season is the point differential used for tiebreakers.

The commissioner admitted that it’s a concept used in international competition, but might not be the best route for the NBA.

He also mentions that the league is used to seeing teams enjoy the benefits of a home crowd, so while he has liked the reception the teams got in Las Vegas he also acknowledged that it might be better to allow them to stay in their respective market.
