At the end of last season, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made the tough decision to suspend Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies for 25 games in 2023-24.
With that suspension about to begin next week, people are wondering what Silver thinks of the situation.
Speaking on “The Carton Show,” Silver shed some light on Morant and his opinion of the young player.
“I know he’s working hard on himself,” Silver started.
“He was accepting that he screwed up, in this case multiple times…I’m hoping in December, if he’s complied with the various aspects of the program, we’re going to see him on the floor,” Silver added.

As he has in the past, Silver repeated his thought that Morant is a very talented young player.
But he said Morant will have to act correctly and avoid any off-court problems if he wishes to succeed in the league.
Silver noted that he believes “other things” were going on in Morant’s life that led to him repeatedly brandishing guns on social media livestreams.
“It just sort of manifested itself through some sort of behavior that way,” Silver said.
Morant has been working on himself for the last few months, reportedly seeking help to address mental health issues and get his personal life in order.
And even though he won’t be able to suit up for the Grizzlies until December, he will be allowed to practice and travel with the team until then.
There have been photos and footage of Morant on the practice court with the Grizzlies, including with newcomers Derrick Rose and Marcus Smart.
As of now, Morant is doing everything he needs to in order to return.
Silver and everyone else hope this is the last time a suspension is needed.
