Adam Wainwright has certainly had better weeks.

After a clunker in London in which he allowed seven runs over three innings, he took the mound on Thursday against the defending World Series champion Houston Astros.

Unfortunately, his previous start was even worse as the St. Louis Cardinals fell into an early 6-0 hole and never recovered.

Earlier in the week, Wainwright briefly deactivated his Twitter account due to negative messages being sent to him from Cardinals fans.

However, the vast majority of the fanbase has rallied in support of the right-hander.

On Twitter, the 41-year-old thanked Cardinals fans for their support over the past several days.

Yesterday’s “Day After Pitching Old Man Walk” brought to you from home… Busch Stadium. Spent some time talking with one of the great workers that make things go, Tillman King…. Great guy. This view was unbelievable. PS… thank you for all the support lately. Love y’all pic.twitter.com/ekiTw6jHy6

After Wainwright departed on Thursday, fans at Busch Stadium gave him a standing ovation despite his tough outing.

The right-hander was even near tears as he left the game.

Cameras even caught him in the dugout having a heart-to-heart conversation with manager Oli Marmol, who expressed his confidence in the two-time World Series champion and told him he wouldn’t give up on him.

It certainly has been a rough week for Wainwright.

He now owns a 7.45 ERA on the season after having made significant progress prior to his London start.

On June 17 against the New York Mets, he tossed his first quality start since last August, pitching 6.1 innings and allowing three runs.

But the vast majority of Cardinals fans are feeling for him as he struggles through his final MLB season.

Fortunately, Wainwright recognized that he is still loved in St. Louis and always will be.
