The Las Vegas Raiders could look much different in 2024 than they did in 2023.

After finishing the season with an 8-9 record, the Raiders are looking to make several changes that will hopefully improve their chances of making the playoffs.

One of those changes could be at the quarterback position, as the Raiders brought in Gardner Minshew to compete with Aidan O’Connell for the starting job.

This would have been seen as a surprising competition a year ago, considering the Raiders brought Jimmy Garoppolo in on a substantial contract.

However, with Garoppolo’s off-field issues in mind, the Raiders have moved on from him and are left with O’Connell and Minshew.

O’Connell showed some flashes in his rookie campaign, but Minshew has more experience, which could lead to a difficult decision for the coaching staff.

In a recent appearance on “The Rush Podcast” with teammate Maxx Crosby, O’Connell peeled back the curtain to what the team’s quarterback room is like and went into detail about his relationship with Minshew.

“It’s not as cutthroat as people probably think it is. Like, we don’t talk to each other, trying to one-up each other,” O’Connell said.

He later said, “There’s competition every day in everything we do, but at the end of the day, we have mutual respect.”

With these comments in mind, O’Connell seems to be in a positive headspace about the upcoming year.

Yes, he is in a competition for the Raiders’ starting job, but he has an opportunity to win it, hopefully leading the team down a winning path moving forward.
