This year’s NBA Draft class is expected to be lackluster, but there could still be one or two legitimate stars who emerge from it.

The No. 1 overall pick is widely expected to be Alexandre Sarr, a 7-foot-1 center originally from France who played this past season in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL).

While on “Podcast P with Paul George,” Sarr said he liked the Oklahoma City Thunder back when Kevin Durant played for them, per Clemente Almanza.

Durant spent his first nine pro seasons with the Thunder (they were still the Seattle SuperSonics during his rookie year), and during that time, they went to the NBA Finals once and the Western Conference Finals three other times.

But in 2016, Durant left to join the Golden State Warriors, where he immediately won back-to-back world championships, triggering a rebuilding process for Oklahoma City.

That rebuilding process is finally scaling some real heights, as they claimed the West’s top seed this season and have a roster that is starting to look somewhat stacked.

Starting in 2021, Sarr played two seasons in the Overtime Elite league here in the United States before heading down under to join the Perth Wildcats in the NBL, where he averaged 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks in just over 17 minutes per game.

While he may not have the ability to become a big-time scorer, he should be able to be a supplementary scorer while sticking to his strengths of shot-blocking and rim protection.

The Atlanta Hawks have the No. 1 overall pick this year, and they could certainly use Sarr’s defensive skills.
