Heading into the 2023 NBA Draft, all eyes were on the San Antonio Spurs and French phenom Victor Wembanyama, with the league and it’s fans knowing a new superstar was emerging who could eventually become the best player in the league.
Fortunately for the Spurs, even though they only won 22 games all year long, Wembanyama proved to be the real deal and the kind of player that had never been seen before, as his length and size were too much to deal with for opponents of San Antonio.
Although the Spurs had a forgettable season in terms of their record, the future is bright in San Antonio with Wembanyama leading the way, as long as Gregg Popovich and company can put more talent around the versatile big man.
Ironically enough, the projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft is also out of France and is also a versatile seven-footer, with the Atlanta Hawks almost certainly taking him with the top pick next month.
Sarr recently appeared on Podcast P with Paul George and talked about following in Wembanyama’s footsteps and how France will be a force to be reckoned with in terms of it’s national team in a few years.
“Obviously I wanna make as much impact as he did in the league … he makes me think about our national team 2-3 years from now & it’s exciting,” Sarr said.

It seems as though the NBA is being taken over by top-tier talent from overseas, as some of the best players in the league today are international products, like Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid.
Only time will tell how the game continues to evolve and if the Americans struggle to keep up with versatile international players in the years to come.
