The Washington Wizards caught a rare break.

Not always do we see the best player in the class force his way down from the No. 1 pick, but that was the case with Alex Sarr.

For undisclosed reasons, the French big man didn’t want to work out for the Atlanta Hawks, thus leaving the door wide open for the Wizards to take him at No. 2.

Notably, it didn’t take long before he showed what he could bring to the table.

The French big dominated defensively in his Summer League debut.

He finished the game vs. the Hawks with 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, one steal, and four blocks.

Moreover, he went viral early in the game after blocking consecutive shots with ease (via NBA).

Sarr’s offensive game is rather limited.

He does most of his damage on lobs, dunks, and putbacks, although he’s starting to expand his range and develop some touch as a shooter as well.

His defense, however, is special.

He has the instincts and the lateral quickness to be a nightmare in matchups and switches, and his shot-blocking skills could put him right at the top with his compatriot, Victor Wembanyama, in a two-man race for the most blocks in the season for years to come.

All other countries should start taking a look at what they’re feeding young men in France, as they’ve now given the NBA three top-notch rim protectors and they continue to develop seven-footers with ease.
