The 2024 NFL season is nearing the corner as teams are in the midst of training camp and preseason is officially underway after the Hall of Fame game between the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans was played this past week.

The league has already seen several players get hurt during practice, an unfortunate occurrence though common as players try to ramp up for the regular season.

The game of football isn’t for the faint of heart as players put themselves at risk every time they out on the field and numerous individuals have gone on to suffer some serious injuries.

One example is former quarterback Alex Smith who played for three teams during his professional career.

Smith was a solid starter for most of that time, though he suffered a gruesome knee surgery during the 2018 NFL season that required multiple surgeries.

Six years out from that fateful day, Smith shared a picture of his leg that went viral on social media via uSTADIUM.

Smith’s injury came as a result of a combined sack from Kareem Jackson and J.J. Watt that resulted in a compound fracture of his tibia and fibula.

After the initial surgery was done, Smith developed inflammation and infection which led to additional complications.

Fortunately, Smith was able to save his leg and even went on to play again but it goes to show how dangerous football can be.
