Back in the day, Allen Iverson was one of the most beloved members ever of the Philadelphia 76ers, and his heart and never-say-die attitude were tailor-made for the gritty city he played much of his career in.
He took the Sixers to the 2001 NBA Finals, and although they lost there to a greatly superior Los Angeles Lakers team, the resistance they put up gave that team a special place in the hearts of fans.
Right now, there is some hope that the current iteration of the team could go very far in the playoffs, as reigning MVP Joel Embiid has returned from a meniscus injury and guard Tyrese Maxey has hit a very high plateau this season.
Iverson praised Maxey, particularly the work the first-time All-Star has put into his game, per ClutchPoints.
“He put in the work to become the Tyrese Maxey that he is now.”

Maxey has averages of 25.9 points and 6.3 assists a game this year, which are significantly higher than the 20.3 points and 3.5 dimes a game he put up last season.
He has really spread his wings after James Harden was traded early this season, and his play has put Harden’s brief tenure with the Sixers way in the past tense.
Philly also made a couple of notable midseason additions, such as sharpshooter Buddy Hield and veteran point guard Kyle Lowry, both of whom have bolstered a bench that looked iffy earlier this season.
The Boston Celtics look to be by far the best team in the Eastern Conference, but they may be a bit vulnerable, and if they are, the 76ers are one team that could send them home early in the playoffs.
