Over the past few years, a lot has been made about defense taking a backseat in the NBA, with the league wanting more offense, which has led to players scoring at an incredibly high rate.

Recently, some of the league’s best players have put on some incredible scoring performances, with six players so far this season scoring 60 or more points in a game.

That’s simply unheard of as that used to happen once or twice in a season, but now it is becoming a regular occurrence, especially with two of those players scoring 70 or more points this season.

Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers set the bar high with a 70-point performance, which was topped not long after by Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic, who scored a career-high 73 points against the Atlanta Hawks.

With the offense and individual scoring performances at an all-time high, Hall of Famer Allen Iverson thinks he’d average 43 points in today’s NBA, which he claimed on “The Big Podcast with Shaq.”

“If I was to play in this era where it’s wide open, if I can average 33 in a season, I’m going just to take it up to 43,” Iverson said.

Even though that initially seems like a bold statement, the 76ers legend might not be wrong because he phrased it saying his best average was 33 points per game, and in a wide-open era, he’d score 10 more per game.

That sounds about right, especially considering there are two players right now, Embiid and Doncic, averaging over 34 points per game, with two more, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, averaging over 30 per contest.
