Earlier this season, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers once again made NBA history when he became the first player to reach 40,000 career points.
That was a huge moment for James, the Lakers, and the league and many people wonder if anyone will ever top it.
Speaking with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson, Amar’e Stoudemire said that only one player could surpass James’ 40,000 points.
“Luka maybe. Other than that, no. Kevin Durant possibly,” Stoudemire said.

James was already the top-scoring NBA player when he crossed the 40,000 threshold a few months ago.
Last year, he leapt over Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most all-time points in league history.
Every point he makes after this 40,000 is just icing on the cake.
Luka Doncic is a supremely talented shooter who will score thousands upon thousands of points during the rest of his career, but does he have what it takes to beat James’ record?
He has currently scored 11,340 points, which pales in comparison to James’ total, but Doncic is a young man who hopefully has many more years in the NBA.
As for Kevin Durant, who Stoudemire also mentioned, he has scored 28,791 points.
The issue here is that James is still playing supremely strong basketball and might be playing for a couple more seasons.
That means every time he scores a basket, he makes it even harder for anyone to catch up.
With that being said, Doncic might have what it takes and he certainly seems like he could be the next person to make history.
But no matter what, one thing is clear: no one is topping James’ total for many years.
