After JJ Redick became the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, the next order of business for the storied NBA franchise was the two picks they had in the 2024 NBA Draft, with the team on the clock at No. 17 and No. 55 overall.
Fortunately for the Lakers, the team had University of Tennessee star Dalton Knecht fall to them at No. 17 in the first round, which many have dubbed the steal of the draft, as he could be an impact player right away for Los Angeles.
However, the team’s second-round pick was another situation entirely, as it seemed the Lakers brass were willing to risk the backlash of bringing in Bronny James, son of LeBron James, after one disappointing season at the University of Southern California, where he averaged 4.8 points per game.
Despite many concerns about Bronny James’s ability to compete on the professional level, as many believed he needed another year or two in college, the Lakers decided to bring him in with the prospect of making NBA history.
By drafting Bronny James, the Lakers will make history by having the first father-son duo in the league, which Marc Spears of ESPN believes is a “legendary” move by LeBron James via NBA on ESPN.
“[LeBron] did something different. … For him to use his power to be able to do that, I think it’s pretty legendary,” Spears said.

Despite all the claims that LeBron James and Klutch Sports didn’t steer Bronny James’ way to the Lakers, all signs point to the contrary, and now the narrative in Los Angeles seems to be making history rather than winning games.
Unfortunately for the Lakers, the offseason has been extremely disappointing, with the team unable to make substantial improvements to the roster, leading many to believe a rough season might be ahead in what could be LeBron James’ last ride in the NBA.
