After some brilliant moves during the NBA offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers were thought to be a legitimate force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference once again during the 2023-23 campaign, with another deep run in the NBA playoffs potentially on the horizon for LeBron James and company.

Unfortunately, with the NBA regular season hitting the halfway point, the Lakers have failed to live up to expectations, with Darvin Ham’s squad falling below .500 on Wednesday night as a result of the loss to the Miami Heat.

With the Lakers sporting a record of 17-18, the team is starting to get written off as one of the better teams in the West, with Ham potentially being on the hot seat moving forward midway through his second season with the team.

The Lakers have lost nine of their last 12 games, and Ham is starting to lose his grip on this team, with reports of him not seeing eye-to-eye with his players anymore due to some questionable lineup changes and baffling rotations.

It’s evident that something needs to change right now, and all fingers appear to be pointing at Ham, with Izzy Gutierrez of ESPN making it clear that Ham might be the problem while on Around the Horn.

“You see [the Lakers] disjointed because of those lineup changes that are entirely unnecessary. You’re talking about a team that’s probably pretty frustrated with it’s head coach right now,” Gutierrez said.

Last year, Ham did an admirable job of turning things around for the Lakers after the team started the season went 2-10 and had a clear problem with star point guard Russell Westbrook.

Unfortunately, the trip to the Western Conference Finals has been forgotten in Los Angeles, with the team currently looking like it can’t compete with any formidable team in the league.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Lakers do from here and whether Ham will still be the head coach heading into the offseason.
