The Dallas Cowboys could be on the verge of a franchise-altering season, and that might not be a good thing.

Head coach Mike McCarthy will be coaching on the final year of his deal this season, and multiple star players such as quarterback Dak Prescott, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, and edge-rusher Micah Parsons are all wanting extensions.

Fox Sports’s Craig Carton thinks that Dallas needs to make the NFC Championship because they could clean house if they don’t.

“They’re gonna clean house…I do believe Dak Prescott is playing his last year as the Cowboys’ starting quarterback,” Carton recently said on The Carton Show.

Not only does Carton think that Prescott may be gone after this year, but he also believes McCarthy will be gone if the team doesn’t make it to the NFC Championship Game.

This is a franchise that has not made it there since the 1995 season.

Prescott, despite coming off of a career year in the regular season and leading the league in touchdown passes (36), fell flat in the postseason again with the team losing to the 9-8 Green Bay Packers at home in the first round of the playoffs in January.

For as big of a brand as the Cowboys have turned into with the leadership of Jerry Jones, they have not been serious contenders in almost three decades.

2024 could very well be a true do-or-die year for a lot of coaches and players in Dallas, especially for McCarthy and Prescott.

Win or lose, younger players like Lamb and Parsons could likely stay on as franchise cornerstones moving into a new era.
