In this year’s NFL Draft, there are several quarterbacks who have high expectations and will be expected to be good, if not great, once they debut in the NFL.

That group includes Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and possibly J.J. McCarthy.

But there are also a couple more who could become very good if they do certain things, although they aren’t necessarily expected to play at a high level.

Michael Penix Jr. from the University of Washington is one of them, but Sky Kruse thinks he will be a “steal.”

In fact, he feels that later on, people will wonder why he wasn’t ranked higher prior to the draft.

Whoever gets Michael Penix Jr is going to get a steal. I can see him being the QB we look back to and say how did we not have him ranked higher? Likely won’t have to trade up for him either.

Penix led the University of Washington to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, where it lost to McCarthy and the University of Michigan.

While scouts are concerned about his accuracy (he completed 65.4 percent of his pass attempts in 2023) and how he deals with pressure, his arm strength is outstanding and is almost a superpower for him.

He threw for 4,903 yards and 36 touchdowns this past season for the Huskies.

For a team that has a pick in the middle of the first round, or even a little bit later than that, Penix could end up being a very good get, especially if he finds his way to a squad that has a strong offensive line and a sound blocking scheme.

No one will expect him to become a Pro Football Hall of Famer, but perhaps he could become a Pro Bowler at some point if all goes well for him.
