The Los Angeles Lakers aren’t an NBA championship contender, and it might be a very long time before that happens again.
Even if they get a third star in the offseason, they would still likely be behind the likes of the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Dallas Mavericks, and Minnesota Timberwolves.
Things would be a lot easier for LeBron James in the Eastern Conference.
He’s well aware of that, as he went to eight consecutive NBA Finals in the East, and has only made it once in the West.
Also, with the end of his career approaching, perhaps it would be nice to think about his legacy and finish where he started.
At least, that’s how former NFL star Chris Canty feels.
Talking on the UNSPORTSMANLIKE Radio Show on ESPN, Canty argued that even if James doesn’t win another title in Cleveland, it would be a fitting way to close his legendary career, not to mention the fact that the East is way easier than the West.

Those are both valid points.
Aside from the Boston Celtics, the only legitimate NBA championship team is the Philadelphia 76ers, and they haven’t been past the second round in ages.
James faced a lot of heat after leaving the Cavaliers, especially the first time.
Even so, given his history with Dan Gilbert, it’s hard to envision that happening any time soon, not to mention the fact that his entire business operation is based in L.A.
