The San Antonio Spurs were awarded the number one overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

The storied franchise used the pick to select none other than French superstar Victor Wembanyama.

Many touted Wembanyama as an even better prospect than the great LeBron James was in 2003.

Wembanyama came into the season with high expectations and many thought he would turn the Spurs around right away.

So far, the 19-year-old hasn’t been able to do that, as the Spurs are currently the worst team in the Western Conference.

Keeping that in mind, NBA analyst Kevin Wildes believes that the Spurs’ current record must be taking a toll on Wembanyama’s mentality via his official Twitter handle.

You can’t convince me that the mental toll of getting rolled every night, the Spurs are 3-19, is good for Wemby’s development.

As mentioned in the tweet, the San Antonio Spurs are currently the 15th seed in the Western Conference with a terrible 3-19 record.

On top of that, the Spurs are on a 17-game losing streak.

Well, rookies are generally drafted into a franchise that’s lost games in previous seasons, but even by those standards, losing 17 straight games can take a toll on a player.

As for Wembanyama, he is averaging 18.8 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game for the Spurs so far this season.

He even became the youngest player in NBA history to record a 20-point, 20-rebound stat line in a game recently.

But at the end of the day, just like any other player in the league, Wembanyama ultimately wants to win games during the regular season.

Can he still help the Spurs turn their season around? Well, as of now, the hopes of that are getting lower with each passing game.
