The Los Angeles Lakers have been on a head coaching search since they fired Darvin Ham.

Ham was only their coach for two years, but after falling short in the playoffs again, the organization had seen enough.

During their search, a few different names have surfaced as the front-runners to take over the job.

J.J. Redick was the first name to reach the public, but he hasn’t gained much traction to this point.

Dan Hurley, the current coach of the UConn basketball was recently offered the job, but he reportedly turned it down to stay there.

As Bill Plaschke told Dan Patrick, “I thought it was embarrassing. The college coach flies out to LA to see the Lakers. He’s offered twice the money he’s making. Offered the chance to be the coach of the most celebrated franchise in pro sports… And he says nah.”

Plaschke seems perplexed by Hurley’s decision, especially considering the amount of money he was offered by the Lakers.

Generally speaking, when a college coach in any sport is offered the chance to move up to the professional ranks, they take it.

In this case, the NBA is seen as a massive step up from college, and most coaches strive to make it to this level.

However, Hurley must have different motivations in mind to go back to UConn, which will make the Lakers go back to the drawing board in their search.
