One didn’t have to be a basketball savant to realize that the Milwaukee Bucks defense would take a hit without Jrue Holiday.

They went from having Holiday, one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, to Damian Lillard, who’s never been known for his defensive prowess.

However, Adrian Griffin’s team has struggled way more than expected on the defensive end of the floor, and CBS Sports analyst Brad Botkin didn’t mince his words when speaking about Lillard (via Legion Hoops).

CBS Sports’ Brad Botkin calls out Damian Lillard:

“At the moment, to suggest Lillard is uncommitted to playing defense would be an understatement. In reality, the guy is playing some of the laziest, flat-out worst defense of his career… It’s been borderline disgraceful at… pic.twitter.com/sRws9s0QXz

Botkin called Lillard’s lack of effort on the defensive end “disgraceful” and “flat-out lazy,” roasting him for his lack of commitment.

The Bucks were supposed to be the team to beat in the Eastern Conference, and they obviously have more than enough talent to make up for losing Holiday, but it seems like first-year coach Adrian Griffin has yet to crack the code in that regard.

While Lillard has never been an elite defender, and he probably never will be, Bucks fans have grown frustrated with his struggles on that end of the floor.

It will require a strong team effort to make up for Lillard’s shortcomings, starting with Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Antetokounmpo is a former Defensive Player of the Year who takes pride in shutting down the opposing team’s top scorer.

It’s still early in the season, and we shouldn’t sound the alarms, as they have plenty of time to figure things out.

That said, Lillard’s poor defense is definitely a worrying trend, and they need to address it as soon as possible.
