The NBA All-Star festivities took place this weekend, and the fan response to them has been extremely mixed.
There was some optimism and excitement over the celebrity game and the three-point contest, but the dunk contest and the actual All-Star Game were not received well.
Many have called the dunk contest ‘unimaginative,’ hoping for the days when players like Dwight Howard, Michael Jordan, and Zach LaVine participated in this event.
The All-Star Game has received similar criticisms.
Fans are unhappy about the lack of defense in this game, as the players do not seem to care to be there or play to their fullest abilities.
Bob Ryan, a journalist from the Boston Globe, took his criticism to the next level in a recent tweet.
He indicated that he was offended by this performance, calling it a “disgraceful farce.”
If you’re not personally offended but this disgraceful farce taking place right now in Indy, you don’t love or understand basketball, These “All-Stars” should be censured. And where are the coaches? Have any of them have any pride? They’re all acting like athletic court jesters.

He indicated that if fans liked what was going on in this game, they don’t truly “love or understand” basketball.
Ryan appears to be a basketball purist and hates that the game is reduced to these levels in an All-Star performance.
While this has been the case for several years, the fact that this year’s All-Star Game was the highest scoring in history might inspire change moving forward.
The NBA might have to provide an incentive for players to participate in this game, or offer a cash prize for the winning team.
Otherwise, this level of play will likely continue into the future, causing journalists like Ryan to stay frustrated with the format.
