The James Harden saga for the Philadelphia 76ers has officially come to an end after a long and drawn-out process that bled into the start of the 2023-24 NBA season.

Even though reports recently surfaced that trade talks between the 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers were on pause for the time being, these two teams were able to come to terms on a deal on late Monday night in what has become another blockbuster trade that has sent shockwaves across the league.

Along with the Clippers using their leverage against the 76ers, Daryl Morey might not have had much choice but to get this deal done this week.

According to Vince Goodwill of Yahoo Sports, 76ers ownership may have forced Morey’s hand in this deal, via NBA Retweet.

“From everything that I’ve been told, this was not a package trade that Daryl Morey wanted. This was a trade that was made essentially by the Philadelphia 76ers ownership. They had told Daryl Morey to get a deal done now!”

With Harden now being shipped to the Clippers, it’ll be interesting to see if Morey’s job is in danger due to this whole fiasco, as the former NBA MVP was adamant about blaming the veteran executive for not living up to promises that he had made.

As for Harden, he’ll join the likes of Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Russell Westbrook in Los Angeles, forming another superteam in the league and improving the Clippers’ chances of competing for a title moving forward.

Even though there’s no telling whether this star-studded roster will work for the Clippers, the Los Angeles franchise has instantly been thrown back into the title-contending conversation, with the team getting a lot of buzz as a potential threat to the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and Denver Nuggets in the West.
