The Boston Celtics have struggled under Joe Mazzulla in one regard.
The inexperienced coach has looked way over his head at times when his team can’t seem to get going, and he rarely calls a timeout in those moments
That’s why it wasn’t much of a surprise to see NBA analyst Bill Simmons ripping him on Twitter in that regard.
“In about 10 years Joe Mazz will figure out how to call a timeout in a big spot. I can feel it,” Simmons said.

Mazzulla was almost able to dig his team out of a 3-0 deficit in the Eastern Conference Finals, a position he should’ve never put his team in to begin with, as he had a far superior squad than the Miami Heat.
But he was just too raw, and coach Erik Spoelstra managed to coach circles around him from start to finish of that series; it didn’t matter who had the better record.
The Celtics revamped the coaching staff by bringing some experienced assistants to help him with multiple things, but the team continues to struggle with the same aspects from last year.
There’s absolutely no doubt that the Celtics have the most stacked lineup in the game, and they should find no trouble beating most teams in the league night in and night out.
But their offense tends to become stagnant at times, and Mazzulla’s in-game adjustments have left a lot to be desired, not to mention the fact that they haven’t been timely at all.
He got the benefit of the doubt because of his past with Ime Udoka and Brad Sevens, but that’s not going to save him again this season.
