While disgruntled wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk waits for the San Francisco 49ers to pay him what he believes he deserves, he might want to think about how much skipping practice could cost him.

According to Michael Ginnitti, the co-founder of Spotrac, Aiyuk could lose a lot of money if he continues to miss time while seeking a contract extension.

“Brandon Aiyuk is subject to $40,000 per day fines for unexcused absence from practice. … If his hold-in/out carries into the regular season, Aiyuk will forfeit $784,666 per week missed,” Ginnitti wrote on social media.

As a player on an exercised 5th-year option, #49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk is subject to $40,000 per day fines for unexcused absence from practice.

Even for a professional athlete who is making millions of dollars to play a game, that is a lot of money.

At a certain point, Aiyuk might have to ask himself if it’s worth it to sit out and squander all that money when his team isn’t budging on giving him a new deal.

The former first-round pick is being forced into a corner.

If he doesn’t want to pay the fines, he might have to agree to play this season on the final year of his rookie contract and hope that he doesn’t get injured.

Then, if he were to go out and have a big season, like he has done each of the past two years, he is going to get paid by some team as a free agent, for sure.

However, he might not want to risk it, because he could lose out on that big payday if he suffers a significant injury, which is always just one play away in the NFL.

It will be interesting to see if he decides to report to the team soon or not, with the season-opener coming up Sept. 9 against the New York Jets.
