The Boston Celtics are coming off two consecutive seasons in which the team was among the last teams standing in the NBA during the playoffs, with one NBA Finals appearance and two straight appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Although the Celtics have been very successful over the last couple of years, with stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown leading the way for the storied franchise, Boston continues to come up short, which has led to the team being aggressive right out of the gate during this NBA offseason.
The Celtics are currently in deep trade talks to acquire veteran forward Kristaps Porzingis in a three-team deal with the Los Angeles Clippers and Washington Wizards.
The trade seems to be a foregone conclusion, with Malcolm Brogdon being sent to Los Angeles.
Even though taking on Porzingis is a risk due to his injury history, the Celtics stand to benefit significantly if the big man can stay healthy and produce like he did last season for the Wizards, which is why Boston beat writers believe this is a win-now move via Celtics on NBC Sports Boston.

The Celtics won’t have much wiggle room for the next few years if this deal goes through like it is expected to, with Tatum and Brown both eligible for supermax contract extensions and Porzingis expected to get an extension done as well before next season.
So this is a win-now move with a lot of risk, as things could quickly go sideways for the Celtics if Porzingis doesn’t work out and Boston is left with no moves that can be made.
