The Indianapolis Colts seem to have a bright future ahead of them.
Even with their rookie starting quarterback making just four appearances, Shane Steichen had his team in contention for a postseason spot right until the final stretch of the campaign.
That’s why expectations are even higher now that Anthony Richardson is back to full strength and ready to take the field for his second campaign.
Nonetheless, NFL analyst Greg Cosell would rather put the brakes on that a little.
Talking on the Ross Tucker podcast, Cosell claimed that he’s not so sure about Richardson’s development and where he stands now, as the Colts were just starting to expand some concepts and give him a longer leash when he fell with a season-ending shoulder injury.

The Colts have an established running game and a solid defense, and Richardson proved that he could be an impactful dual-threat quarterback right out of the gate.
He also had plenty of time to get a full grasp of the playbook and all the concepts of the offense, although, obviously, there’s nothing like real game situations and reps to get a full hold of it.
Still, there were already some concerns about Richardson’s development and lack of experience, as he barely played during his college days at Florida, so having him miss most of his rookie season obviously was far from ideal.
We’ll have to wait and see, but if Richardson is able to take better care of his body, there’s no reason to believe he can’t be one of the best quarterbacks in the game soon.
